Took visiting friends to Owamni — they had never experienced indigenous cuisine. The wild rice pilaf and bison dish were extraordinary. $40 per person for 3 courses. The Mississippi River views add to the experience. This restaurant is doing culturally important work while serving incredible food.

Fourth visit to Owamni. The spring menu features wild ramp pesto, walleye from Leech Lake, and strawberry sorbet with maple. Every visit reveals new indigenous ingredients I've never experienced. $42 per person for 3 courses. This is the most culturally important restaurant in America.

Owamni by the Sioux Chef is a James Beard Award winner doing indigenous North American cuisine. No wheat, dairy, or cane sugar — just pre-colonization ingredients transformed into incredible dishes. $28-42 entrees. The bison tartare is unforgettable. Overlooks the Mississippi. Reservations essential.
