About Kafi BBQ
Kafi BBQ offers a unique twist on traditional Texas barbecue by making it halal, catering to the dietary needs of Muslim diners. Opened in December 2024 by Salahodeen Abdul-Kafi, a former Silicon Valley engineer turned pitmaster, the restaurant blends classic Texas smokehouse flavors with influences from Abdul-Kafi’s Iraqi heritage. Signature dishes include beef brisket, pork chops brined with sweet tea, Duroc pulled pork, chicken, and jalapeno sausage. The name 'Kafi' carries a double meaning—it is both a family name and Arabic for 'enough' or 'satisfied.' The restaurant also stands out for its fries, which are cooked in beef tallow, reminiscent of the old McDonald's fries. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with a modern touch that reflects its unique fusion of cultures. As Ramadan approaches, Kafi BBQ is preparing special items for suhoor and iftar meals, including chai. This addition broadens the options for halal diners in North Texas, traditionally served by South Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines.

Locals-only secret for BBQ in Irving. Kafi BBQ does not advertise much but word of mouth keeps them packed. The beef ribs on weekends are extraordinary.

The brisket at Kafi BBQ is smoked low and slow for 18 hours and it shows. Perfect bark, incredible smoke ring, and melts in your mouth. Best BBQ in Irving period.

Ribs at Kafi BBQ fall off the bone but still have the right amount of chew. The housemade sauce is tangy and sweet. Get there early because they sell out by 2pm most days.

Tried the BBQ sampler at Kafi BBQ and every meat was cooked to perfection. The pulled pork was juicy, the sausage had a great snap, and the sides are incredible. Worth the wait in Irving.

Kafi BBQ is our tailgate and family gathering BBQ spot in Irving. They do large orders with notice and the meat is always consistent. The burnt ends are a must-order.

Good BBQ spot in Irving. Kafi BBQ has solid brisket and the mac and cheese side is creamy and delicious. Friendly staff and a no-frills atmosphere that fits the food perfectly.
